Slingsby is a peaceful village in a conservation area noted for its outstanding beauty and has Saxon, Viking and Roman associations. It even has a castle, and a maypole on the village green which is danced around on May Day.
There are some local shops and a friendly inn called The Grapes is just two doors away which serves bar snacks and delicious home cooked meals, there is also Lowry's Restaurant at the top of the village.
The village provides an ideal base for exploring an area offering great variety for all the family.
Castle Howard is nearby, as are the pretty market towns of Malton, Helmsley, Pickering and Kirbymoorside. The historic city of York is less than half and hour’s drive via Castle Howard. The North York Moors and famous steam railway are within easy reach by car. The fishing villages of Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay are well worth a visit as are Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington. |
